Help keep El Salto Falls clean: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TvmxpRQebNU
The San Luis Rey band of Mission Indians considers these falls a sacred place. For more information on this historic site view this handout created by a local Carlsbad High student, Ava Haddock.
The city of Oceanside created a Falls Management Plan which was finalized in 2011. With this the city was to carry out monthly patrols to check on human activities and remove trash and graffiti and perform needed maintenance. In spite of this the area on both sides of the falls are experiencing high levels of trash requiring ongoing cleanup activities.
We have started to see some progress on our efforts to better protect this Native American Sacred Site. The manager of the adjacent shopping center is getting engaged and has promised to do timely repairs of the fence. We are teaming up with the city of Oceanside and the adjacent land manager, the San Diego Habitat Conservancy, to do a major clean-up in April, 2022.
