North San Diego County Watershed Monitoring Program

May 4 at San Marcos Creek in La Costa highlighted the water quality program being supported by Preserve Calavera after San Diego Coastkeeper lost their funding in December. SDCK had run a citizen science program for many years throughout the county. With the support of equipment from SDCK and help from Erick Burres of the CA Waterboard, Preserve Calavera is setting up its own monitoring lab (Kasey’s Lab) that will supplement field testing for the creeks running into Carlsbad’s three lagoons. The data generated is important in assessing the health of these watersheds, something governmental agencies are not doing. For more information, or if you’d like to volunteer or donate to the program, contact Paige at pdecino@preservecalavera.org.
